Portland’s Fourth of July fireworks return to the Eastern Promenade on Saturday, July 4th, with the display launching from the East End Trail at approximately 9:15 PM, preceded by a Casco Bay Wind Symphony performance starting at 7:00 PM featuring patriotic music, popular tunes, and symphonic pieces.
Food trucks will be available along the Eastern Promenade Roadway, and the East End Trail will be closed from Cutter Street to the Water Treatment Plant beginning at 6:00 AM until approximately 11:00 PM for safety. For those who prefer to watch from elsewhere, the fireworks are visible from East End Beach, Fort Allen Park, Amethyst Park, Baxter Boulevard, Payson Park, Martin’s Point on Veranda Street, and Bug Light in South Portland.
A rain date is set for Sunday, July 5th, with the same trail closure times applying if the event is postponed.
Fourth of July Community Celebration
The Maine Historical Society hosts a free Fourth of July community celebration on July 4, 2026 at 489 Congress Street in Portland, rain or shine, with live music from Julia Haven and Norumbega Brass, refreshments, and free admission to both the museum and the historic Wadsworth-Longfellow House.
The event also serves as the launch of MHS’s statewide 16-county tour, which will bring the Declaration of Independence and related programming to communities across Maine throughout the summer. It’s a fitting way to mark Independence Day at one of Portland’s most historically significant addresses, connecting the holiday to the documents and stories that shaped the nation.
Bath Heritage Days
Bath Heritage Days runs July 2 through 5, 2026, taking over downtown Bath, Maine with four days of live music on the waterfront stage, a carnival on Commercial Street, food trucks, an OystHERS Beer & Wine Garden, and Art in the Park featuring over 50 vendors at Library Park.
The centerpiece of the Fourth is Maine’s largest Independence Day Parade, stepping off at 10:00 AM on July 4th under this year’s Semiquincentennial theme “250 Years in Motion: Looking Back, Moving Forward,” followed by a full day of performances at the waterfront stage headlined by SKOSH at 8:00 PM and fireworks at 9:15 PM.
The weekend also includes a 1-mile and 5-mile road race on the morning of July 4th, the 177th Firemen’s Muster on Front Street, and a Kids Day at Library Park on July 3rd with live animal shows, crafts, and heritage games. On Sunday, July 5th, the festival wraps up with an antique car show, more Art in the Park vendors, and an evening waterfront lineup closing with The High Road.
July 4th in Freeport
Freeport marks America’s 250th anniversary on July 4th with a full day of community events, starting with the Freeport Harraseeket Grange #9 Annual Pancake Breakfast from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM featuring plain and blueberry pancakes and sausages for $10, followed by the hometown 10K Road Race and 1-Mile Family Fun Run at 7:25 and 9:10 AM, a tradition of over 40 years with proceeds benefiting the YMCA of Southern Maine Casco Bay Branch.
The Main Street Parade steps off at 10:00 AM, and the evening closes out with L.L.Bean Music in the Park at 7:00 PM featuring the Don Campbell Band playing Country Americana. The Town of Freeport was unable to secure a suitable location for fireworks this year, so those looking for a display will need to plan accordingly. The full day offers plenty to keep the whole family busy from sunrise to well after dark, and parade participants of all kinds are welcome to join in.
